Responsible for International Ocean Affairs at SMHI
Patrick Gorringe is responsible for International Ocean Affairs at SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and acts as the national contact point for a number of Swedish and international governmental bodies and institutes. Since 2002 employed at SMHI, and went for a sojourn to work for EuroGOOS AISBL, the European component of GOOS, the Global Ocean Observing System, in Brussels and IMOS , Integrated Marine Observing System, in Australia. The focus of his work has been within operational oceanography, in particular observational data. Patrick has a unique competence of the ocean observing system, its applications, and users and has dedicated a lot of his work to bringing together divers marine communities in order to enhance the cooperation and by this increase the accessibility to marine data. He is a member of a number of advisory boards and involved in projects and initiatives related to marine data management and dissemination of data on European and Global scales. Patrick is the Swedish representative to WMO-IOC Joint Committee for Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) and acts with an expert function in the Swedish delegation of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO).
