Call for Abstracts

Flagship of IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (IEEE/OES) and of the Marine Technology Society (MTS), the OCEANS Conference is one of the most influential international conference in this field.

OCEANS 2019 Marseille, under the theme “Let’s sea our future together”, will be the ideal opportunity to present your latest and most innovative research to a qualified audience of experts. Abstracts and full technical papers must fall under one of the Special Marseille Topics or Standard Oceans Technical Topics.

KEY DATES:

  • Abstract Submission Opening : 8 November 2018
  • Deadline for abstract submission : 15 January 2019
  • Opening of registration and hotel booking: 15 January 2019
  • Authors notification : 1 March 2019
  • Student Poster notification: 11 March 2019
  • Full paper due : 15 April 2019
  • Deadline for early bird registration : 1 May 2019
  • Oceans 2019 Marseille opening : 17 June 2019

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES:

  • Regular Technical Program : if the submitted abstract is chosen, authors will then be required to submit a full paper they will present as part of the technical progam (in a technical session). Following the conference, the paper will be published in IEEE Xplore.
  • Student Poster Competition(*): if the submitted abstract is chosen, students will then submit a full paper and poster which they will present during the student poster section of the Exhibition Hall. Following the conference, the paper will then be published in IEEE Xplore.
    (*) This competition is open to any full-time student in an accredited program. Students must be listed as the lead and corresponding author. Selected applicants, based on abstracts reviews, will have travel and registration expenses subsidized.
  • Special Sessions (workshops and panels): abstracts and presentations are required but the submission of a full paper is optional. Participation for non-paper sessions is at the discretion of the Technical Chairs and/or General Chair. Please contact us.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINE:

  • All abstracts must be submitted in PDF format, and must be created by the author (co-authors are allowed).
  • 500 word minimum; 1000 word maximum; 2 page maximum – inclusive of text, graphics, and references.
  • Please include at the top of the abstract the name of the principal author, the institute or affiliation the paper represents, and the title of the paper.
  • The originally-submitted abstract cannot be used as a substitute for the conference paper. Please note that abstract PDFs do not need to be converted through the IEEE Xplore PDF eXpress service.
  • Authors of accepted papers are expected to prepare and submit the conference paper (4 to 10 pages) for conference proceedings at the conference (additional instructions will be given at that time).

AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS:

In order for papers to appear in the Technical Program and be presented at OCEANS Conferences, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Abstracts should be no more than 2 pages including all text, pictures, and references. The abstract at the top must also list the corresponding author and his or her institute or affiliation the paper is representing. (i.e. John Smith : University of Someplace). The originally-submitted abstract cannot be used as a substitute for the conference paper.

  2. The length of the paper must be between 4 and 10 pages, including figures and references. Do not include blank page(s) at the end to achieve the minimum length.
  3. The paper must be formatted to U.S. letter size (8.5 by 11 inches). To assist in the preparation of the paper, style templates for MS-Word and LaTeX manuscripts can be downloaded directly from the IEEE website
  4. Carefully proofread and check the layout of your paper before going through Step 5 – it will save you time.
  5. Log in to IEEE PDF eXpress and create an IEEE Xplore®-compatible PDF file of your paper. The conference ID is: 39585X
    1. For each conference paper, click “Create New Title.”
    2. Enter identifying text for the paper (title is recommended but not required).
    3. Click “Submit Source Files for Conversion.” Only PDFs created using IEEE PDF eXpress will be accepted.
    4. Indicate platform, source file type (if applicable), click Browse and navigate to file, and click “Upload File.”
    5. You will receive online and email confirmation of successful upload.You will receive an email with your IEEE PDF eXpress-converted PDF attached, usually within a day.
    6. The file returned from the PDF eXpress site is the file that you will upload to the OCEANS 2019 MTS/IEEE Marseille Author Dashboard. Please save it to your computer where you can access it when using our website in the next step.
  6. Submit (upload) your paper and register for the conference on the Author Dashboard and use your email address and password sent in your acceptance email. The deadline for all submissions is 15 January 2019
    1. Registration of the paper also registers you as a full delegate for the conference. A single paper registration fee can be applied to up to three papers on which you are a co-author. To include additional papers, simply enter their abstract numbers in the provided fields during the paper registration process.
    2. Upload your paper(s) as IEEE Xplore®-compatible PDF files returned to you by email from the IEEE PDF eXpress website.
    3. You will be required to complete a copyright form. Note that receipt of your paper by this Conference constitutes release for open publication by IEEE. No cancellation of such release is permissible after submission in this step.
    4. You will be required to enter keywords to describe your paper.
    5. You will be required to complete the Paper Registration process through the Author Dashboard, not through the website link to the public registration form.
  7. You may verify receipt of your paper by downloading it from your Author Dashboard.
  8. An oral presentation (or poster presentation for Student Poster participants) of the paper at the conference is required for the paper to be published in the citable Proceedings of the conference in IEEE Xplore, the IEEE online database. Failure to present the paper at the conference will result in withdrawal of the paper from the published Proceedings of OCEANS 2019 MTS/IEEE Marseille. The Proceedings DVD distributed at the conference may contain your paper, but that is not the official publication and cannot be cited in other literature. Please be sure to attend and orally present your paper or have a co-author do so. 9. If you need a VISA, you will be given a link for the document to send to the application window during the registration process. Once your paid registration has been confirmed, you will receive the VISA application documents by post.
